Role within the Network

DESAG, one of the largest private operators of public rail infrastructure in Germany, is a cooperation partner in the implementation of the nationwide pilot project “Prignitz” by Netz33 in northeastern Germany. This project aims to create a high-performance and resilient fiber optic backbone along the rail corridors in rural areas.

In this context, DESAG contributes its expertise, capacities, and all necessary information to the project's planning process, provides support based on its long-standing cooperation with the state railway authorities in approval of the cable management system KFS-0A developed by Niedax, and provides Netz33 with track access through easement agreements.

With the installation of the Netz33 fiber-optic infrastructure along DESAG's railway route, a versatile supply corridor is being created – enabling the development of a digital rain network, improving connectivity in rural areas, and fostering cross-sector innovation in green energy, mobility, and sustainability.

Through this state-of-the-art site infrastructure, the cooperation partners are driving the digital transformation in rural areas and making them attractive for technology-oriented companies, such as for the establishment of data centers, thereby opening up new economic prospects for regions in Germany that currently have structural weaknesses.
